ESL Tutoring Program
Beginning with the 2007-2008 school year, Saint James School added an ESL teacher to the school's staff to assist international students with their transition to English speaking classrooms. International students who are English Language Learners (ELLs) are organized into small, age-appropriate groups that meet with the ESL teacher during the school day each week. Students receive group and one-to-one English language tutoring and academic instruction in a relaxed and nurturing environment. The ESL teacher maintains close contact with classroom teachers and school counselors to pinpoint the specific needs of each student. Information related to school policies and events is also reinforced in the ESL classroom. This program has proven to be very effective as part of the overall International Student Program.
