Saint James Band is Awarded Superior with Distinction

Director of Bands, Susan L. Smith, and the Saint James School Band performing at the ABA Music Performance Assessment at Opelika High School, Wednesday, March 11, 2015.

Congratulations to the Saint James Band for their performance at the Alabama Bandmasters Association Music Performance Assessment at Opelika High School last Wednesday. Dressed in formal attire, the 7th through 12 grade students performed 20 minutes of very challenging music and were awarded with Superior Ratings from all 3 stage judges - Elva Kay Lance - Director of Bands at Mississippi State University, Richard Delafuente - Former Director at UMS Wright, and Bill Thompson - Retired Band Director Mosley High School Florida. After their stage performance, the band moved to the sight-reading room where they had 7 minutes to study a new piece and then perform it for a rating. The judge in this room was Mr. Garry Taylor - Retired Director at Cullman and Lee Scott Academy. Because all 4 judges gave the band the highest rating in each category - they received the rating of "Superior with Distinction." Only 3 bands participating in the festival were awarded this rating - what an achievement and great honor for Director of Bands, Susan Smith, and the Saint James Band!!
