STJ Robotics Win in Auburn
Saint James Builds the B.E.S.T.
The Saint James School Robotics Team competed at the War Eagle B.E.S.T. (Boosting Engineering Science and Technology) Robotics competition October 9th and 10th, against 19 other teams from east central Alabama and west Georgia. The Saint James team earned high commendations in six categories advancing them to the South’s B.E.S.T. Robotics Competition later this year.
In six short weeks, the Saint James robotics team studied simulation software and programmed their robot. They wrote a 40-page engineering notebook, designed an exhibit to showcase the robot, and promoted their “engineering company” through a formal marketing presentation they prepared complete with digital components. In addition, the team designed a website and compiled a CAD notebook. The robotics students held school assemblies and manned tables at athletic events to talk about B.E.S.T. and their robot. They prepared gifts to share with other teams and made posters and signs to cheer on their team during competition. With the assistance of the Saint James Graphic Design class, they designed a t-shirt to enter into competition.
The hard-working group of teenagers brought home six top-three awards: First Place for their CAD Notebook (for the 3rd consecutive year); Second place for their Marketing Presentation and for their T-Shirt Design; and Third Place for the B.E.S.T. Award, their website, and the Team Exhibit & Interview.
The Saint James Robotics Team includes fourteen sophomores, juniors, and seniors: Isabel Blancett, Hayden Cruse, Josh Garnett, Jason Grate, Sean Jung, James Kelly, Daniel Kim, Gibeom Kim, Gyuna Kim, Connor Taylor, Jacob Turcotte, Harris Washington, Katelyn Worsham, and Jason Zhang. The Team now advances to the South’s B.E.S.T. Robotics Competition December 5 – 6, 2015 at Auburn’s Beard Eaves Coliseum where they will compete with more than 50 other teams from across the southeast.
