In the spring of 2002, the Interscholastic Equestrian Association (IEA) was established to introduce students in middle school and high school to the sport of equestrian. From just 200 riders in the beginning, the IEA has grown to 13,500 members in over 42 states.
Saint James School began their IEA participation in 2011 and is happy to now include riders in Fourth Grade through Twelfth Grade. We are the only school in the state of Alabama having a hunt seat team competing with other club teams and independent riders. Our season consists of horse shows with teams from Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee, Mississippi, Florida, and South Carolina. The season usually begins in late fall and lasts through winter.
Saint James has had many successful riders compete in post season championships, including at the IEA regional, zone, and national levels. Any level rider is welcome on the team from the walk/trot class to classes jumping up to 2’6”. If you are interested in learning more about the STJ Jumpers, please contact team parent Gail Donaldson at 334-462-8193 or IEA team coach, Jessica Williams of Hunter Haven Stables in Pike Road, at 334-717-1112.
